The Rock 'n' Read Project bus has been serving over 200 students this summer at a Minneapolis Public School summer school and at the YMCA Youth and Teen Enrichment Center. Students enter the bus for about 45 minutes of singing every day over the 7 to 10 weeks of the summer. We pre-tested and will post-test students on reading with a new on-line assessment from the U of Minnesota that takes about 15 minutes to complete. The research says that students gain about 1 year of reading in 13.5 hours of singing. Yes, that's amazing! See the website:

I'm working on a new venture, a nonprofit organization to get all kids reading...through singing. Website will be up soon. The first project will be the Rock 'n' Read Bus that will go to Minneapolis-St. Paul YMCAs this summer. More to follow.

We didn't win the million $ prize. But, we do have a partner. A charter school in St. Paul would like to launch the Sing to Read Revolution. We are looking for funding.

That’s what singing does for everyone and every word we sing. Yet thousands of children cannot read at grade level so they lose hope and give up. Nationally, Minnesota has the worst 4-year graduation rate for Latino and Native American students and the second worst for African-...

Does your school have struggling learners?
Do you want to close the achievement gap?
We can help!

We are looking for a school who would like to partner with us in a study of pre- and post-scores of any subject area that you would like to improve. We would inservice your staff (or part of your staff) throughout the year in how to sing daily and use Affirming Parallel Concepts strategies among reading, math and music. At the end of the year, you would compare scores to the teachers' scores from their prior year, or to the scores of teachers who did not apply singing and APC strategies.

Based on our teachers' prior research studies, we believe you will see dramatic improvement.

Thank you for attending our sessions at the ED MN Conference on Thursday!

We would love to present at your school or district. We are especially interested in finding a school or district willing to conduct a study of their reading and/or math testing given the application of daily singing and Affirming Parallel Concepts strategies.
